In Cover 2, both safeties have what is known as “deep half,” meaning they simply can’t let anyone beat them deep on their side of the field.

The Cowboys attempted twice as many passes (18) in the 0-5 yard range alone. They averaged half the yards-per-attempt (5.2) on these throws. This is evidence that the offense needs to get the ball downfield. Let’s not forget that the simple act of stretching the defense (even on incomplete passes) can open things up underneath and in the running game. Here is more evidence that Garrett needs to call more deep passes.

Overall, Philly blitzed 12 times. The Cowboys dropped back to pass on all 12 of those plays, completing six-of-10 for 35 yards, an interception, and a touchdown (giving Kitna just a 60.4 passer rating on blitzes). Kitna also ran for nine yards and got sacked once on Eagles blitzes.

Philly also showed blitz on five plays but then backed out into a safe coverage. Dallas passed on four of those plays for 17 total yards, and ran twice for four yards.

I thought the Cowboys had an up-and-down night in terms of Michael Vick's rollouts. The goal was clearly to not let him get outside to the left, and for the most part they did fairly well. They did a particularly nice job of limiting Vick's rushing yards without using a spy. They also forced him to his right pretty often, and he threw one of his interceptions while rolling right.

It takes 60 minutes of great football to beat an elite football team, however, and the Cowboys failed to stop Vick from rolling to his left on the very first play of the game. The Eagles ran a bootleg and Vick sat extremely comfortable in the pocket after rolling left, heaving a bomb to DeSean Jackson that set a tone for the whole night.

The Cowboys ran "Double Tight Strong" eight times, five of which were strong side dives. Unfortunately, they ran the strong side dive in normal game situations, not just short-yardage. They went for four total yards. Nice.

On the three non-strong side dives from the formation, Dallas ran once for six yards and threw twice for 26 yards. Quite a difference.

Dallas motioned on 14 of their first 20 offensive plays, but then on only eight of their final 40.

In my pre-game manifesto, I called for the Cowboys to throw a lot of screens. They threw five for 44 yards, but I would have liked to see more. Two of the "screens" were to wide receivers for just two total yards.

I hated the Cowboys' 4th and 4 punt from the Eagles' 39-yard line. Statistically, they should have gone for it on all the way up until 4th and 11 in that situation. Actually, they should have gone for it on 4th and 4 at their own 39-yard line.

The draw play was clearly part of Garrett's game plan, as the team ran it nine times. They gained 37 total yards on those plays and scored one touchdown, so it was moderately successful.

Before that, however, the offense should have been in hurry-up mode. Considering the Cowboys' new up-tempo practices under Garrett, they sure do lack a sense of urgency in crucial times.

At the end of the game, the Cowboys' defense needed to stop LeSean McCoy on the ground. They knew runs were coming, and they still got gashed. That was really disheartening.

Of course, the offensive line and game situations were a bit different in '09, but I'm more concerned about the relationship between various situational statistics within the same year rather than a black-and-white year-to-year comparison.

Having said all that, I still feel that spread runs can be more effective than rushes from tight formations. The yards-per-carry rate from spread formations over the past two seasons is a combined 4.50--much better than the 3.93 yards-per-rush number of 2010 tight formations.

Further, take a look at the chart to the left. Last season, the efficiency of draws from spread formations was far and away better than that of tight formation draws.

Thus, while the statistics of spread vs, BUY Nymphomax ONLINE WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION. tight runs in 2010 are similar, I think Garrett could do the offense a tremendous favor by calling the right sort of plays from particular formations. In my opinion, this seemingly minor characteristic of spread formations--that they make defenders think a pass is coming--makes draw plays from spread formations extremely successful. The 2010 draw statistics back me up, as, despite a lack of overall success in the running game, the Cowboys have gained 230 yards on 47 spread draws (4.89 yards-per-carry)--not as substantial as last season, but still impressive.

Ultimately, I'd love to see the Cowboys run more from spread formations, particularly in situations like 2nd and 10+, for example. The numbers show that spread runs are more efficient than tight runs in long distance-to-go scenarios, as the defense is preparing for a pass. Add in some spread draws, and that Cowboys' yards-per-carry on all runs should increase.

His 3-1 record as a head coach thus far is impressive, but the intelligence and heart with which the team is playing is an even bigger sign of things to come. Garrett has proven to me that he possesses the smarts, attention to detail, and ability to adapt that will make him a successful coach for the Dallas Cowboys in 2011 and beyond.

Choice is superior to Jones in pass protection, which will be vital this week.

DO double-team Eagles defensive end Trent Cole with tight ends and running backs.

In my view, Cole is far and away the Eagles' top defensive player. He creates havoc in the opposition's backfield whether defending the run or the pass. He's consistently one of the most underrated players in the NFL. I place him on par with guys like Dwight Freeney and even Ware (but no, I wouldn't prefer Cole to Ware).

If the Cowboys leave Doug Free on an island against Cole, he will get abused. Free has been the Cowboys' best offensive lineman all season, but I don't think he's up for that sort of challenge just yet. Look for the Cowboys to run the same "Gun 5 Wide Tight" formation they created for last week's game in Indy to help Free and the always helpless Marc Colombo.

As I mentioned in my film study observations:

In my pre-game article, I wrote:

The Cowboys blew the Colts off of the ball early, running the rock on 15 of the first 20 plays. They gained 86 yards on those plays (5.73 yards-per-carry), BUY Nimetazepam ONLINE WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION.

Dallas lined up in Shotgun on only 19 plays (25.7 percent of all snaps). Plus, the 'Boys were lined up in "Gun 5 Wide Tight" on 11 of those plays, meaning the tight ends were still in position to chip the Colts' defensive ends even in most of the Shotgun snaps.

DO give Tashard Choice all short-yardage and 3rd down snaps, at least.

Result: Pass

Choice received all but one 3rd down snap and all but one short-yardage snap (three yards-to-go or less), and they were the same play. Altogether, Choice was on the field for 29 snaps, and he certainly capitalized on his first significant activity of the season.

Overall Results

I'll give the Cowboys 10 passes and 6 fails. They did a really nice job of fighting back, displaying the heart they didn't always show during the Phillips era. That's particularly impressive considering the team knows they're out of the playoff hunt. There is always something for which to play, however, and as long as these players remember that and continue to fight, they'll be fine moving forward into 2011.
